It’s emerged that there has been an increase in the number of students in IT Sligo looking to avail of the Students assistance payments scheme over the past year.
While the number of applicants has increased, the level of funding available has remained stagnant.
In IT Sligo last year 354 students were allocated funding under the scheme with the average payment consisting of 580 Euro. Down from 776 euro in 2016-2017.
302 students were awarded funding under the scheme for that academic year.
Gerry Hegarty is Student affairs manager at IT Sligo, he says students require funding to help offset a number of costs associated with college life.
