National Council for the Blind go on strike in North West

Some services for blind or visually-impaired people in the north west may be hit today by a strike by staff of the National Council for the Blind of Ireland who are members of the Forsa union.

The industrial action is over what the union says is the inaction of the HSE to restore to NCBI staff pay that was reduced in 2010.

Today’s action may result in services such as assessments and other activities being postponed.

Donegal native Kevin Kelly, head of advocacy with the NCBI, says that while today’s strike will not have major consequences for people in the north west, the action will likely escalate later if a resolution to the dispute is not found.
