Lough Talt treatment plant on schedule

A South Sligo Councillor says progress on the new water treatment plant at Lough Talt is progressing according to schedule with the expectation that clean water will be flowing from it by the third quarter of this year.

For some time now, almost 13,000 people in the area have been on a boil water notice since cryptosporidium was discovered in the supply

The Boil Water Notice was reissued in January 2019 after it only having been lifted in October 2018.

The Lough Talt supply was discussed at yesterday afternoon’s meeting of councillors from the Ballymote/Tubbercurry Municipal District as a result of a motion from Fine Gael Councillor Martin Connolly.

He asked for an update on progress on the new treatment plant and if a back-up generator is being installed in case of a power outage.
