Estimated €289,000 worth of cannabis seized in major Garda operation



A major Garda operation in the region seized an estimated €289,000 worth of cannabis yesterday.

Searches were carried out in Sligo, Roscommon and Mayo and involved members of the force from Sigo, Leitrim, Roscommon, Longford and Mayo Drugs Units with support from the Armed Support unit.

5 arrests were made in separate searches

A search in the townland of Clogherevagh, Co. Sligo just off the R286 heading towards Parke’s Castle, Co. Leitrim, led to the discovery of 80 Cannabis Plants with an estimated value of €64,000; A 49 year-old man was arrested at scene.

Two separate searches were carried out in Ballaghaderreen, Co. Roscommon, which led to the discovery of a total of 153 cannabis plants and cannabis herb with an estimated value of €161,000.

Three men, 33, 46 and 41 years-old were arrested in connection with these seizures.

In Charlestown, Co. Mayo, 80 Cannabis Plants were seized, with a potential value of €64,000 and a 26 year-old man was arrested at the scene.

All men remain in custody today and investigations are ongoing.
