Sligo-Leitrim: Seán Wynne eliminated

Drumshanbo based independent candidate Sean Wynne was eliminated at the end of Count 9 in Sligo-Leitrim.

His 1,985 votes are being distributed amongst the remaining candidates.

The secondary school teacher contested the local elections in two municipal districts in Leitrim last year.  His performance however this time round has been more impressive, he has polled very well in Leitrim and in his native Drumshanbo where there was a very high election turnout.  Wynne secured one third of the overall vote in Drumshanbo, his native town where he is also the vice-principal of the local Vocational School.

Wynne made the decision to run very late in the day, and only gave himself two weeks to hit the campaign trail.

The former Fine Gael party member says his votes came from several different sectors.  His was very vocal on the pro-life issue and left theFine Gael party over their stance on the Repeal the 8th referendum.

One-off housing in Leitrim was another issue Wynne fought hard on during the election and he is also an advocate for community banking to be introduced in Ireland.
