Sligo Rovers John Mahon suffers leg break

Sligo Rovers defender John Mahon will be out of action of a considerable part of the 2020 season after fracturing his leg during last Saturday’s pre-season friendly against Athlone Town.

Rovers won the game 1-0 thanks to a Ronan Coughlan goal – but the chief consequence of the outing from a Rovers perspective was Mahon’s injury.

The club confirmed on Sunday that the Collooney man has fractured his tibia (shinbone) and will be out of action until the Summer at the earliest.

Mahon has been one of Sligo Rovers most consistent performers in recent seasons and his loss will be keenly felt.

Rovers begin their SSE Airtricity League Premier Division campaign on Friday, February 14th, away to Finn Harps (8pm). The game will be broadcast live on The Rovers Hour on Ocean FM.
