McDermott starts for Ireland in Six Nations opener

Riverstown’s Aoife McDermott has been named in the Ireland team for Sunday’s women’s Six Nations game against Scotland at Energia Park in Donnybrook (1pm).

The Railway Union player will start in the second row alongside Nichola Fryday.

IT Sligo graduate Cliodhna Moloney, who’s currently playing her club rugby with Wasps in London, is named as hooker in the front row. Ballybofey’s Laura Feely is one of the replacements.

The Irish girls had a disappointing Six Nations last season, finishing fifth and winning just one of their five games. Adam Grigg’s side will be keen to begin this year’s campaign with a win.

Ireland have three home matches in this year’s Six Nations.

Sunday’s game against Scotland kicks off at 1pm.
