Donegal’s McKenna Cup semi-final goes ahead this Sunday

Donegal’s McKenna Cup semi-final against Monaghan will go ahead as planned despite concerns expressed by Donegal that they might not be able to field a team this weekend, because of players Sigerson Cup commitments.

The semi-final has been fixed for Brewster Park in Enniskillen with a 2pm throw-in. The game will live on Ocean FM in association with Donegal Plumbing & Heating, Old Laghey Road, Donegal Town.

Donegal booked their place in the last four after Wednesday night’s 1-10 to 0-8 win against Derry at Celtic Park, which saw them finish top of Section A. Monaghan also go through as the best runners-up.

The competition format had already pre-determined that the Section A winners would play the best runners-up, hence Donegal and Monaghan meet again for the second time in seven days.

It’s understood that Down had also requested that their semi-final against holders Tyrone be moved to next Tuesday night – but Ulster GAA has confirmed that both semi-finals go ahead as planned on Sunday.

Sunday’s McKenna Cup semi-finals – 2pm
Donegal v Monaghan, Brewster Park
Down v Tyrone, Athletic Grounds.
