Letterkenny to Galway hospital route is busiest for Coast Guard helicopter

The busiest helicopter emergency medical transfer route for the Irish Coast Guard is from Letterkenny to University Hospital Galway.

That’s according to an end-of-year statement from the Coast Guard.

Coast Guard helicopter services are provided under contract by CHCI operating a fleet of Sikorsky S92 helicopters out of bases in Sligo, Shannon, Dublin and Waterford.

The helicopter emergency transfer service to hospitals is in addition to its primary role of maritime search and rescue, as well as support services for off-shore islands.
