“Progression is needed on the 48-bed medical block to alleviate pressure on the doctors, nurse and staff at Sligo University Hospital.”
That’s according to Sligo/Leitrim TD Eamon Scanlon who is calling on the government and the HSE to allocate funds for a new medical ward at SUH as planning permission has been granted for the facility.
Figures released by Fianna Fail earlier in year showed that 10.6% of ambulances attending SUH from Sligo, Leitrim and Donegal only managed a 20 mins turnaround time.
Deputy Scanlon says bed capacity is a long-standing issue in Sligo and in the North West.
