Almost 1 in 10 motorists plan on travelling north for Christmas gifts



Almost 1 in 10 motorists are planning a cross border shopping trip this Christmas.

A recent AA Rescue survey found just over 9% of respondents said they intend on travelling north for gifts which, is a slight drop on last year where almost 11% said they would.

The most popular item will be clothes which 56% of people said they would buy followed by beauty products at 35% and electrical goods the third most popular at 18%

Barry Aldworth of the AA says that there will be an increase of traffic around Sligo, Leitrim and Donegal this Christmas.

Speaking to OceanFM News, Mr Aldworth says that there may be people unfamiliar with the area and to be mindful in the coming weeks.
