Sligo councillors adopt budget for 2020 on third attempt

Sligo’s county councillors have adopted their Budget for 2020 on their third attempt.

Councillors voted by 12 votes to 3 in favour of the proposals at last evening’s meeting, which lasted only ten minutes.

On this occasion, the Fine Gael members of the council voted in favour of the Budget, which they hadn’t done at the previous two meetings.

Fianna Fáil councillors again voted for adoption, along with Independent councillors Joe Queenan and Michael Clarke.

Sinn Fein’s Chris MacManus and Thomas Healy voted against, as did Independent Socialist Cllr Declan Bree.

The council risked being taken over by an independent commissioner if it didn’t pass the Budget by tomorrow.
