Mixed local reaction to Garda figures for north west region.



New figures released today are claiming that the Sligo Leitrim region has proportionally more than twice the number of Gardai compared to the greater Dublin area.

The report in today’s Irish Independent are suggesting that there are wide variations in the number of Gardai per head of population in the 28 Garda Divisions across the country.

 

The figures are claiming that the Sligo Leitrim Division has 31 Gardai for every 10,000 of a population.

The national average stands at 26.3.

 

 

Sligo Leitrim TD Deputy Martin Kenny is the Sinn Fein spokesperson for justice and equality he says that although the figure is welcome for the local region there are a number of factors that have to be taken into consideration

 

 

Brendan O’Connor is a GRA Spokesperson for Donegal, he says it hoped that the figure of serving Gardai in Donegal will increase to 364 in the near future, however he added there are other resources that are lacking in the County such as Patrol cars not being replaced.
