A temporary podiatrist is to be employed at Letterkenny University Hospital.
The current podiatrist is on maternity leave and although LUH recruited, interviewed and confirmed a candidate to take up the position, the HSE was not allowing the employment as there is a recruitment freeze within the department.
Sinn Fein’s Pearse Doherty claims this is having a huge impact on patients attending the clinic, particularly for those with diabetes who require regular monitoring.
Speaking to Ocean FM news, Deputy Doherty says it is totally unfair on staff and patients that because one member of staff goes on maternity leave, the whole service has be shut down:
