Two contenders seek green party nomination in Sligo/Leitrim

As the countdown continues to the next General election the Green party have confirmed that they will be running a candidate in the Sligo/Leitrim/South Donegal and North Roscommon consistency.

Potential candidates have until October 8th to express a declaration of interest of contesting the election on behalf of the Green party.

It’s also expected that a selection convention will take place later this month.

It’s emerged that there are two front runners that are most likely to contest the general election on behalf of the greens in the four seater consistency.

Bláithín Gallagher, a former local election candidate that ran in this year’s local elections in the Manorhamilton Municipal District and Michael Ewing a former chairperson of the Irish environmental network are considered at this stage as the two front runners to secure the nomination.

Another former local election candidate, Leslie O’ Hora has also signalled his intentions to seek a seat in the Seanad Seat.

Speaking earlier to Ocean FM Mr O’ Hora says the party are gathering increasing support right across the north west.
