Local Students face challenges in securing grants

The Students Affairs manager at IT Sligo says many students are struggling to meet their financial demands due to the inadequate funding they receive from SUSI.

The plight of hard pressed students was recently heard by An Oireachtas Committee.

The Joint Committee on Education and Skills were informed how students that are not living with their parents can’t provide the necessary documents to prove they are eligible for the funding and that those in part time employment while in education also face restrictions and issues when applying for the SUSI grant.

Gerry Hegarty is the Students Affairs manager at IT Sligo he says Students have a lot of conditions to meet in order to secure funding.
