INMO issues warning over staff shortages at Sligo and Letterkenny Hospitals

Urgent warnings have been issued that under staffing of certain services must be curtailed for safety in many of the Saolta University Healthcare Group hospitals including Sligo and Letterkenny University Hospitals.

The warnings have been issued by officials from the Irish Nurses and Midwives Organisation who claims Saolta management should be gravely concerned due to the high levels of missed care, delayed care and poor patient outcomes arising from the number of nursing and midwifery vacancies.

INMO Industrial Relations Officer in the North West Maura Hickey, says there are currently 57 vacancies in nursing and midwifery at Sligo University Hospital.

She says nurses and midwives are struggling daily to deliver safe care.
