Hopes that work on Sligo portion of N16 Sligo-Manorhamilton road is just the start

Sligo County Council hopes An Bord Pleanala’s approval this week for work on a 2.5km stretch of the N16 Sligo/Manorhamilton road will be the first of a number of such projects on the route over the coming years.

Sligo County Council has come in for criticism in the past at Leitrim council meetings over its lack of progress on the Sligo section of the N16.

But Sligo County Council Director of Services Tom Kilfeather says a start is now being made with the work to be done between the townlands of Drumkilsellagh and Lugnagall, mostly in the townland of Lugatubber.

And Mr Kilfeather hopes that, over the next 10 to 20 years, there will be a number of similar schemes on stretches of the road on the Sligo side, eventually resulting in the entire 14 kilometre route to the boundary with Leitrim being upgraded to an acceptable standard.
