After 3-year absence, Sligo Gay Pride Festival returns

After an absence of three years, the Gay Pride Festival is returning to Sligo this weekend.

This year, members of Sligo’s LGBTQ community, in association with the Dublin LGBTQ Pride and The Outing Festival, will host a three-day series of events from Friday, August 9th to 11th.

The Sligo Pride comeback coincides with the 50 anniversary of the Stonewall Riots in Manhattan, a key moment in the LGBTQ rights movement.

Sligo’s Pride March will take place on Saturday at 2pm, gathering in the Abbey Street Car Park from 12:30pm.

The Queen of Matchmaking of the Outing Festival and Manager of Dublin Pride, Eddie McGuinness, praised people in Sligo for reviving the event.
