Claims that 60 to 70 votes not admissible, could not be counted in South Donegal

A candidate in the recent local elections in South Donegal has voiced his concern about inadmissible votes that, he says, could not be counted due to errors by polling station staff.

Diarmaid Doherty says it meant a significant number — possibly 60 to 70 — of what were otherwise valid votes could not be counted.

In a statement released to OceanFM News this evening, ‘Donegal County Council can confirm that the total number of ballot papers recorded as placed in Polling Station Ballot Boxes in the Donegal Local Electoral Area was 14,318 and the number of papers deemed invalid for want of official mark was 18.’

He says these votes were deemed inadmissible through no fault of the voter, adding that he is still awaiting a response from Donegal County Council.
