Donegal out of women’s championship after Mayo defeat

Donegal senior women’s gaelic footballers have missed out on the All-Ireland quarter-finals following Saturday’s 1-22 to 3-12 loss to Mayo in their decisive group qualifier game in Tullamore.

Donegal needed a four-point winning margin to secure a place in the last eight. Instead, Mayo won by four to finish top of the group and earn a quarter-final meeting with Cavan. Tyrone, who beat Donegal last weekend, take the runners-up spot in Group 4.

Tir Chonaill manager Maxi Curran spoke to Ocean FM Sport after the game:

As Ulster champions, Donegal are exempt from the relegation play-offs despite finishing bottom of their group.
