Minister McHugh confirms Ryder Cup for Adare Manor



A Donegal TD has confirmed the Ryder Cup is coming to Ireland.

 

The Minister for Education and Skills Joe McHugh, made the announcement ahead of today’s cabinet meeting in Donegal where the cabinet are expected to sign off on plans to provide the money to bring golf’s most prestigious tournament to Adare Manor in 2026.

 

It comes after months of negotiations between the government and the European Tour.

 

Deputy McHugh say’s the news comes at a time when Irish Golf is basking in the glory of Shane Lowry winning the open last weekend.

 

 

Hosting the Ryder Cup in 2026 will cost Irish taxpayers around 50 million euro.

The government has signed off on funds to bring golf’s most prestigious tournament to Adare Manor in seven years time.

It’s estimated the tournament could be worth 160 million to the Irish economy as well as boosting the country’s profile internationally.
