Fourteen week wait to access home care services in Donegal

The lack of home care packages has once again been highlighted in the north-west region.

Sligo Councillors recently discussed the matter at this week’s meeting of the Sligo Drumcliffe Municipal District, and now It has come to light that that there is a 14 week wait for home help services in the County of Donegal.

Recent figures which were released to Donegal TD and Leas-Cheann Comhairle of the Dáil Pat the Cope Gallagher have confirmed that 192 people are waiting for home help hours in Donegal, with some waiting four months to access their allocated care.

Speaking earlier to Ocean FM news, Deputy Gallagher says the figures are unacceptable, and he claims the only new home help hours that are coming on line are recycled hours from those who no longer need the service.
