Donegal road safety group raise concerns over low rate of license recordings after drink driving convictions

A Donegal road safety group says there is serious concern over disparities in drivers producing their licenses at district courts nationwide.

PARC says recent statistics raise major questions about the recording of license details following drink driving convictions in court.

The details – obtained by Independent TD Tommy Broughan, revealed the low rate of such license recordings – raising fears that some drivers may continue using their cars despite being disqualified.

Donegal had one of the lowest rates of producing licences in the country at just 14% – Sligo and Leitrim both had a rate of 37%.

PARC spokesperson, Susan Gray says the effectiveness of liaison systems between various agencies involved in collating such data needs to examined.
