Deadline for submissions to oppose fracking plans extended

The deadline for submissions opposing plans for fracking to be carried out close to the Fermanagh/Leitrim border has been extended.

The Department of the Economy in the north has announced the deadline will be pushed back until July 31st.

Up to now there has been over 1500 online submissions made and over 500 written ones that have been delivered directly to the department.

Fracking has been banned in the Republic of Ireland since 2017 however there are fresh fears the practice will take place in Fermanagh.

Jamie Murphy from Love Leitrim is asking the public to continue to make submissions.
