Sligo Beef Plan Movement plan protest on Mercosur deal next week

The Beef Plan Movement in Sligo is urging farmers across the region to attend a protest on the Mercosur deal in Dublin next week.

The EU trade deal, which farmers say will flood the Irish market with cheap beef from South America, is currently under consideration by the European Parliament.

Mercosur is the South American trade alliance which includes Argentina, Brazil, Paraguay, Uruguay, and Venezuela.

A demonstration is being planned by farmers in opposition to the deal next Wednesday at 12 noon outside Dail Eireann.

It will also be attended by members of other farming organisations including the ICSA and the ICA
Sligo Beef Plan Movement Chairperson, Gerry Pilkington says he has serious reservations about the deal.
