A Sligo/Leitrim TD says a recent EPA report on septic tanks gives a wrong impression of the actual situation.
The report, published earlier this week, showed more than half of septic tanks inspected in Sligo and Leitrim have failed tests, with just under a third of inspections in Donegal resulting in failures.
But Sinn Fein Deputy Martin Kenny says the tanks chosen for inspection would have been expected to fail because of situations such as pollution in nearby rivers, streams or watercourses.
Deputy Kenny says it’s important to point out that half of the tanks inspected in Sligo and Leitrim actually passed.
