Call for more funding for cross-border medical treatment

Calls have been made for the Minister for Health, Simon Harris, to provide additional resources to the cross-border directive team.

The Cross Border Directive is an EU program that enables people to get treatment in another EU country and then be reimbursed afterwards by the HSE.

Donegal TD Charlie McConalogue has issued the appeal after recent HSE figures confirmed that there are currently 3,500 applications for reimbursement and prior authorisation waiting to be processed.

Deputy McConalogue has called on the government to provide extra funding immediately.
