Fianna Fail is to table a motion today calling for military allowances to be restored to pre-recession levels.
Members of the defence forces rely more heavily on their allowances than others in the public sector.
During the crash, these allowances were initially cut by 5 percent before a further 10 percent reduction – they have yet to be restored.
Numbers in the Defence Forces have continued to fall despite recent recruitment campaigns.
