European Commission report highlights lack of Traveller accommodation

Traveller accommodation is one of the main areas Ireland has been urged to take action on in a new European Commission on racism.

Other key areas identified include online abuse and hate crimes.

The report says local authorities have consistently failed to provide adequate accommodation for Travellers, and the National Action Plan against Racism is out of date by over a decade.

Bernadette Maughan from the Sligo Travellers Support Group says the lack of Travellers’  accommodation locally is a major issue.
