Declan Bree elected from Sligo-Strandhill



Sligo Independent Socialist Councillor Declan Bree has been elected on the first count in the Sligo Strandhill area.

With 1348 votes, he easily exceeded the quota of 1217.

With 45 years’ service, Bree is now Sligo’s longest-serving councillor and the second-longest in the history of the county.

Following the first count, the lowest-polling candidate, Amanda Gallagher of the Green Party, who got 175 first preferences, was eliminated and her votes were distributed for the second count.

In count two, no candidate exceeded the quota. Renua’s Finbarr Filan was eliminated and his 320 votes are now being distributed.
