Donegal councillors call for bye-laws on overnight parking . . . but legal advice must be sought

South Donegal councillors have agreed to introduce bye-laws prohibiting overnight parking of camper vans and caravans in certain parts of Ballyshannon and Bundoran.

But they have been advised by a council official to proceed with caution as the proposed move would present both legal and technical difficulties.

Cllr Barry O Neill made the proposal at this week’s meeting of councillors from Donegal Municipal District.

Legal advice will now have to be got on the legal and practical difficulties in policing and enforcing the bye-laws.

Cllr O Neill said the word ‘overnight’ was a key word in his proposal, as he felt this this would help the gardai and local authority in implementing the bye-laws in the named areas.
