Killavoggy locals oppose windfarm construction



Residents living near Killavoggy in Co Leitirim are opposing plans for the construction of a windfarm in the area.

Coillte is proposing to develop a commercial scale wind farm located on the northeastern slopes of Carrane Hill, Garvagh, Killavoggy which is situated in north Leitrim.

Sinn Féin MEP, Matt Carthy, says he has written to the Minister for Planning Eoghan Murphy requesting the concerns of local communities will be taken into consideration before any planning is granted for the Croagh wind farm.

MEP Carthy says while everyone accepts there is a need to develop renewal energy he has concern regarding the sites close proximity to heritage bog land areas.
