MEP McGuinness says significant move due within days on Lough Talt water plant

A north west European Parliament member says a significant step will take place within the coming days in relation to upgrade plans for the Lough Talt water treatment plant in South Sligo, where more than 13,000 people are on a Boil Water Notice.

It will be the response from Culture and Heritage Minister Josepha Madigan to Environment Minister Eoghan Murphy.

Because Lough Talt is in a special area of conservation under European law, Minister Madigan must give the green light to Minister Murphy when it comes to planning permission for a new plant.

This is necessary where it’s been asserted that a matter public interest overrides that of special conservation.

MEP Mairead McGuinness has been telling Ocean FM News why the response from Minister Madigan to Minister Murphy is so important.
