St Patrick’s Day parades taking place across the region



Parades will be taking place all day on St. Patrick’s Day this year right across the North West region.

The 49th Sligo Town parade kicks things off at 12 noon this St Patrick’s Day. It begins at Mail Coach road where it will continue on to Temple St and finish at Teeling St.

There will be a world record attempt with Sligo hoping to break the world record for the largest number of leprechauns.

In West Sligo the seaside town of Enniscrone will see celebrations get underway at 1pm followed by Easkey at 3pm and Dromore West at 4pm.

To the north of the county and Grange parade will kick off at 2pm where participants will assembling at Gilroy Tiles and bathrooms.

Other parades in Co. Sligo include Ballymote, which has a starting time of 3.30pm and Aclare where the action will begin at 4.30pm.

South Sligo Athletic Club will be hosting its annual 10 and 5 K road races in Tubbercurry which will start at 12.15.

In Leitrim there is a late start to the Patrick’s Day celebrations with the Dromahair parade getting underway at 4.00pm before Manorhamilton finishes the day off from 5pm.

In Donegal the festivities get underway with the Ballyshannon parade beginning at 2pm, followed by Bundroan 3.30pm.

Killybegs and Donegal Town parades are both beginning at 3pm on the day with thousands expected to line the streets of the South Donegal towns.

 

On the roads:

Gardai in the region have advised motorists to be aware of street and road closures during the time of parades across the three counties.

A number of road closures will be in place throughout the region this St Patrick’s Day weekend.
