Bohan: Not enough LIS roads funding for Leitrim

The effectiveness of the local roads improvement schemes were called into question at a recent meeting of Leitrim councillors from the the Manorhamilton Municipal District this week.

An annual allocation of 390, 028 euro is available to the county for 2019, which is down 9% on the figure of 2017.

The matter was raised this week by Drumkeerin Councillor Mary Bohan.

She said that with 150 applications seeking funding since 2010, both the Minister for for Rural & Community Development Michael Ring and the Minister for Transport Tourism and Sport Shane Ross have neglected Leitrim on the funding front.

Councillor Bohan was also hugely critical of any suggestions that Community Groups should have to embark on fundraising projects to secure funding to finance infrastructure projects as footpaths and public lighting for housing estates. The Drumkeerin Councillor also felt the County were let down by a very small regeneration funding allocation for 2019.
