MacSharry: Too much focus on dairying and forestry; more support needed for NW’s suckler herd

Sligo Leitrim Fianna Fáil TD, Marc MacSharry has called for greater supports for the agri sector in the north west region following the British threats to Irish beef imports.

The Sligo-based TD says with the UK being Ireland’s largest export destination for agri-food products, any moves by our neighbours to open their markets to the South American beef in the event of a no deal would destroy the both the English and Irish Agricultural sector.

Deputy MacSharry has called on Minister to ensure that funds should now be made available to protect farmers from a no-deal Brexit and give them time to prepare for such an outcome.
