Taoiseach Leo Varadkar and Minister Shane Ross to turn the sod on two major Sligo projects today



Today is sod-turning day to mark the official start of work on two, massive, long-awaited road projects in Sligo.

A top council official says today’s events involving the Taoiseach and Transport Minster is the culmination of work by many people and groups over the years.

Leo Varadkar and Shane Ross will both be in Sligo to turn the sod for the upgraded Collooney to Castlebaldwin road and the Western Distributor Road on the outskirts of Sligo Town.

It’s believed the Taoiseach will then travel to Finisklin Business Park, Sligo where a jobs announcement is expected

Sligo County Council Senior Engineer Tom Brennan says that for everyone involved in planning and campaigning for the schemes over many years, it’s an example of what can achieved with determination and teamwork.
