Sligo to become a ‘breastfeeding friendly city’

Sligo is to become a ‘breastfeeding friendly city.’

It will mean private, community and government organisations welcoming breastfeeding mothers, as well as supporting them and their families by various easy, no-cost actions.

The aim is to encourage more mothers to begin and continue breastfeeding for longer.

The proposal that Sligo take action to become a breastfeeding friendly city was proposed at yesterday’s meeting of councillors from the Sligo Municipal District by Cllr Sinead Maguire and seconded by Cllr Marie Casserly.

Cllr Maguire has personal experience of knowing it’s not always easy for breastfeeding mothers.
