Appeal lodged against decision to refuse planning permission for cinema

An appeal has been lodged with An Board Pleanala after a planning application for a cinema in Sligo has been turned down.

Sligo County Council refused the planning application for the 9 screen cinema in Cleveragh Retail Park late last year.

The planning application for a 9 screen, 637 seat cinema in Unit 2 in Cleveragh Retail Park was turned down by Sligo County Council on December 14th last year.

One of the reasons stated by planners for the refusal was the distance of the proposed site from the Sligo town centre.

Planners said they felt it would detract from the vitality and viability of the city centre.

The company behind the application is Coogee Park Ltd based in Dun Laoghaire Co Dublin.

It has now lodged an appeal with An Board Pleanala in an effort to overturn the local authority’s decision.

It’s expected the planning appeals board will make a decision on the application within the next 16 weeks, however this period could be extended.
