Older workers forced to join Job Path programme claims Sligo TD

A Sligo/Leitrim TD claims some older workers on community employment schemes are being forced to become part of the Job Path Programme.

Fianna Fail Deputy Eamon Scanlon is also calling for more young people to be taken on under Job Path to help them learn construction skills, which, he said, would help fill vacancies in the building sector.

The purpose of Job Path is to get people, particularly the long-term unemployed, into full-time jobs or self-employment.

Deputy Scanlon, who raised the issue in the Dail last night, says undue pressure is often placed on older workers who, he insists, should be let continue do valuable work they may be already doing while on community employment schemes.
