Delays possible on N17 through Charlestown due to works by Irish Water

Motorists travelling from the north west along the N17 through Charlestown in County Mayo may experience delays in the coming weeks.

It’s because of works by Irish Water.

The works are part of a €19m investment in the Killala, Foxford and Charlestown sewerage scheme.

A new sewer will be installed through Charlestown along the N17 route.

After a number of trial pits will be dug in the area of The Square in Charlestown, work will then start on a new sewer from the railway line on the N17 beside Cassidy Motors, on through the town centre of Charlestown, crossing The Square and along the N17 as far as the garda station.

All works on the sewer scheme, which serves more than 3,200 people, are expected to take about eight weeks to finish.
