HSE says efforts to fill six vacant CAMHS posts in Sligo/Leitrim/West Cavan is ‘being progressed’



The HSE says the number of vacant posts in its Child Adolescent and Mental Service in the Sligo/Leitrim/West Cavan region is 6.

The HSE was responding to claims about the number of vacancies and the number of children and young people waiting for access to the service.

The HSE, in a statement to Ocean FM News, said: “The total number of whole time equivalent, CAMHS posts in Sligo/Leitrim/West Cavan is 22. Of these the actual number of vacant, whole-time equivalent, CAMHS posts across Sligo/Leitrim/West Cavan is 6.

“The filling of these posts is being progressed through the National Recruitment Service.

“At the end of October 2018 there were 240 children and young people waiting access to CAMHS service across the whole of CHO Area 1. CHO 1 includes the counties of Cavan, Donegal, Leitrim, Monaghan and Sligo.

“As the end of December 2018 there were 74 children and young people waiting access to CAMHS service in Sligo/Leitrim/West Cavan

“Of this 74, 71 were waiting 0 to 3 months and 3 were waiting 3 to 6 months.

“There is no one waiting longer than 6 months,” the statement concluded.
