Warning to beach walkers after boy had lucky escape

A Donegal councillor is calling on people to be careful while out walking on beaches and in coastal areas.

It’s the time of year when walkers — who are often visitors to areas — take to beaches they may not be entirely familiar with.

But while safety on beaches is highlighted in summer time, it’s often forgotten at this time of year.

Independent Councillor Micheal Cholm Mac Giolla Easbuig was commenting after a three-year old boy had a lucky escape while walking on Carrickfinn beach in Donegal when he sank up to his waist in the sand.
