Marc MacSharry TD clashes with department on cost of broadband



Sligo TD Marc MacSharry and the Secretary General of the Department Communications have clashed on the cost of rolling out fibre broadband.

The National Broadband Plan is being examined by two separate Dáíl committees today.

The Department of Communications is being urged to examine rolling out 5G rather than fibre broadband to rural Ireland.

ComReg has estimated the cost of rolling out 5G to 99.5% of the country would cost 1 point 8 billion euro or around 1,800 euro per household, if 1 million properties were covered.
