Call for Donegal council to complete footbridge as soon as possible

A Donegal councillor is calling on contractors to get works on a new footbridge between Ballybofey and Stranorlar completed as a matter of urgency.

Cllr Patrick McGowan, Cathaoirleach of Stranorlar Municipal District, said pedestrians and traffic are trying to pass one another on the bridge in a restricted space, with one side of the bridge fenced off due to construction works.

He said the council has blamed technical issues for delays in the construction of the footbridge, which will cost in the region of €800,000 to complete.

Cllr McGowan said while it was hoped the bridge would be finished before the start of the school year, he is now doubtful of assurances that the footbridge will be completed by Christmas.
