Honorary Degree for Tubbercurry Dementia advocate

A Tubbercurry woman has been awarded an Honorary Degree from NUI Galway for her work in Dementia advocacy.

Helen Rochford Brennan was diagnosed with Dementia at the age of 62 in 2012 and has been campaigning to raise awareness of the illness ever since.

Helen has encouraged the medical profession and community to look beyond the medical model of care for people with dementia and to focus on the person.

At the awards ceremony in Galway yesterday, Helen told graduates not to be afraid of what the future holds.

Meanwhile Helen is asking anyone who is in any doubt about Dementia to please visit their doctor
