Retailers urged to consider taking over business from Post Offices



Dunkineely Post Office is closing today.

It’s part of the national raft of closures where post masters or post mistresses are retiring.

The local community has written to An Post to ask them to keep the post office open.

Speaking on North West Today, Roger Meehan of the local campaign said it’s a sad day:

Meanwhile, retailers in local areas at risk of losing post offices are urged to make a business case to An Post.

An Post will consider transferring services to a local business if the operation is viable.

It’s something that Minister Denis Naughten highlighted over a month ago.

But Independent Councillor in Sligo Marie Casserly says it’s good that it’s back in the news this week:
