Leitrim Councillors look set to support Sean Gallagher



Leitrim County Council is expected to back businessman Sean Gallagher at a special meeting next week.

Mr. Gallagher was one of a number of presidential hopefuls to make a presentation at the Council yesterday.

Following yesterday’s presentations, a date for a special meeting has been set for next Monday.

Potential candidates need to get the backing of at least 4 Councils or 20 Oireachtas members.

Motions to back a candidate had to be submitted to Leitrim County Council by this morning.

Ocean FM News understands that three motions have now been submitted calling to back the Cavan businessman.

The motions are cross party and include a motion by Independent Cllr Enda Stenson, one by Fianna Fail Cllr Mary Bohan and another by Fine Gael Cllr John McCartin.

The special meeting to decide will be held next Monday at the Council offices in Leitrim at 1pm.

Meanwhile the following Wednesday (12th September) Sligo Councillors will have the opportunity to hear from a number of the presidential hopefuls.

Council Cathaoirleach Councillor Martin Baker says about seven people have already indicated their interest in attending the Sligo council meeting:

A date has yet to be set for the Donegal meeting to hear from potential candidates.
