VIDEO: Hundreds turn out in protest at closure of post offices



Hundreds of people turned out to a protest against the closure of post offices in the region today.

Groups came from all over the region including Cliffoney, Gurteen and Dunkinely in Co. Donegal.

The protest made it’s way from Connaughton Road down to the GPO on O’Connell Street in Sligo Town.

Cllrs came from Sligo, Donegal, Mayo and Leitrim.

 

 

Speakers included local Cllrs, Cathaoirleach of Sligo County Council, Martin Baker, farming and local community groups.

The rally called for the Government to rethink its strategy and keep post offices and all rural services open.

Gardai closed off O’Connell Street for the event.

Local TDs also attended and spoke at the event including deputies Marc MacSharry and Martin Kenny.

Vanessa Clarke is from Muintir na Tíre and says it’s time to ‘shout stop’
